ANNAI INDIRA NAGAR–It was a sea of pink and purple as ladies gathered to celebrate Women’s Day, organized by the Velachery Annai Indira Nagar Residents’ Welfare Association (VAINARWA), where notable contributions of women of the area were recognized through their awards ceremony.

The mix of women doing extraordinary things was eclectic: a policewoman, a doctor, a school principal, a journalist and even a woman who staved off a chain-snatcher, to name a few.

Some of the honourees included: Sister Regina, headmistress of St. Antony’s Girls Higher Secondary School; Saranya Ragavendran, who fought off a chain-snatcher, J. Krishnapriya, managing trustee, Krishnapriya Foundation, for initiating re-greening efforts in the colony post-Vardah and Lalitha Rao Sahib of Udupi Ruchi and Bloom Fertility and Healthcare for healthcare. Others who were felicitated included S. Bharathi, sub inspector of police, Velachery; R. Maragatham, chief manager, Indian Bank; K. Kalyani, retired professor, Guru Nanak College and Parimala Ponnambalam of S.G.S. Charitable Clinic; and Prasanna Senthil Kumaran of Pranu Home Needs.
