Velachery better prepared for climate disasters, says study

Indian_Air_Force_Relief_and_Rescue_Op_during_Tamil_Nadu_Flood_December_2015

In spite of the geographic disadvantage of a wetland, Velachery is likely better prepared to handle extreme rain events than Mylapore, a study conducted by School of Earth and Atmospheric Science, Madras University, and ETH Zurich in Switzerland.

The study took into account the recovery time of the two localities after the 2015 floods. In spite of having more waterlogging, residents of Velachery tended to organize and look for solutions themselves, and were more eager to be part of the recovery process, the study concluded.
