The Chennai Corporation reclaimed around 30,000 square feet of open space after a lengthy legal dispute was solved. The area, meant to be Open Space Reservation, is located in Regal Palm Garden Apartments near the Graand Maall.

There are several other cases of land belonging to the public having been taken over by apartment complexes. In a few cases, temples and other structures are built, which is against the norms laid down.
